Several Tips and Tricks on Animation and Rigging

We created a collection of 10 tips and tricks showing how to rig, skin, and animate a model in Blender in preparation to use in a game.

We are still trying to win the Salt Valley Tally competition so if you haven't yet please vote for us.

Please Vote Here!

If we win the competition we will release a animated manticore model to be used in commercial projects such as video games. Also we will make a large tutorial showing how to animate several animations and import the model into Unity 3D.

Please enjoy the video below: :)

  1. Holy cow! This is a great tips and tricks video. The ice monster and manticore are pretty slick too.

Maybe you can turn on Sceencast Keys next time. That way we can see what hotkeys are are pressing.

  2. Tip 3... recalc'g bone rotation for all 3 axes is unnecessary, and actually only cycles thru the 3 options, winding with all bones recalc'd to the Z axis. The idea here is to recalc on a single axis, being consistent for the bone chain such that all axes for the bones in a chain are being manipulated on the same axis (turn on axis indicators and they should all point the same direction for a given bone chain.)

  3. Another alternative for viewing bones and mesh at the same time, esp. if you prefer using octohedral, would be to go to the Object properties panel and, in the display panel, use the dropdown to change from "Textured" to "Wire". (Additionally, checking "X-ray" here will be reflected back in the Armature proper panel as well.)
